Back to School
Yesterday I received my acceptance letter to Red River College. I will be enrolling in the Electronic Engineering Technology program beginning in Autumn.
Why back to school? I’ve already got a BSc. in Applied Computer Science from the University of Winnipeg but I don’t really feel-prepared/no-one-will-hire-me for a “career” yet. That is okay though. I’m kind of excited about going back.
What I really want to be able to do is to make an “entire thing”. I don’t know what I want to make but I’m very drawn to the idea of making a functioning device. Put it in a cool little case. Yeah, that’d be great.
In the past two-ish years MAKE Magazine and their Blog have been a big influence on me. I kind of look at the world differently than I used to. It’s very inspiring stuff. Everyday I read about other people doing all these really cool/pointless projects and I want to do it too. Now I see opportunities all over the place.
I’ve already posted a couple of little sketches of ideas I’ve had and I look forward to being able to follow through on those ideas.
So yeah, right now I know how to make software. This program will teach me how to make hardware. Most things I’m interested in are a combination of hardware and software so I’ll be psyched to understand both.
