So much communication

Sometimes my brain has trouble catching up with all of the non-linear conversations in my life.  Traditionally I send someone an email asking a question.  The recipient then replies in an email with an answer.

When I see a reply from that person my brain usually recalls the question I asked and prepares to receive an answer.  I think I have an alright brain but it’s very easy to confuse it by providing it with answers to questions that it isn’t expecting in this context.

Say I text message you asking what time you’re done work.  Then you send me a facebook message saying “4:00″.  That’s all it says.  When I get a message like this my poor brain has no idea what “4:00″ means.  Eventually Brainy figures it out but it always throws him for a few seconds.  I’m realizing just how much my brain relies on a linear same-medium-to-same-medium scenario to establish a context and recall the right memories.

In an average day I’ll get/send phone calls, texts, emails, facebook messages/wall-posts/picture-comments/status-updates, twitter status-updates/messages and blog posts.  I assume eventually Brainy will get used to it.  I wonder what my kids will be like.  Will this make them better brainstormers?
